Thomas F. Meehan Jr.

Thomas Meehan November 19, 1931 – December 3, 2024 Thomas Meehan, affectionately known as “Uncle Tom” or “Mr. Meehan” to all who knew him, passed away peacefully at the age of 93. Born and raised in the vibrant neighborhood of Inwood, Manhattan, Thomas was proud of his Irish heritage and remained deeply connected to his roots throughout his life. He was a true patriot, having served his country with honor during the Korean War, and was a respected and beloved figure in his River Edge, New Jersey, neighborhood. Tom was the devoted husband of Dolores (White) Meehan, whom he married in 1957. Together, they built a life full of love and companionship. He was a committed father to his daughter Catherine, her husband Michael Monopoli, and son Thomas and his wife Jelam. A proud grandfather to Michael Monopoli, and his wife, Marisa, Daniel Monopoli, Christopher Monopoli, Briana Meehan, and Thomas Meehan. He is also survived by his brother in law Joseph White, his nieces, Dolores (Kummerer) Marks her husband Robert and Patricia (Kummerer) Bencivenga and her husband Joseph, and their children, Kevin Barry, Erin Barry, Michael Sheridan, and Andrew Sheridan, as well as countless other nieces, nephews and friends who considered him family. A true traditional man in every sense, Tom earned the honorable title of the “Mayor of Continental Avenue” due to his vigilant watch over the River Edge community from his deck, always with a glass of Irish whiskey in hand. His legendary St. Patrick’s Day and Fourth of July parties became cherished traditions for family and friends, where his warm hospitality and infectious sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who attended. Tom’s dedication to his family, his love of Irish culture, and his steadfast patriotism made him a pillar of his community. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. If you drive by the house on Continental Avenue, continue to beep and wave, as he watches over all of us. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on January 11, 2025 at St. Peter's the Apostle Church in River Edge, New Jersey at 10:00 AM, followed by a gathering of friends and family at Biagio's Restaurant in Paramus, New Jersey, at 12:00 PM.
