Barbara Louise Atkinson Taylor, was called home to be with our Lord on February 17, 2025, after complications from co-occurring health issues. Barbara graced this earth for 92 years with her intellect, singing talent, bilingual skills, elegance and style. The daughter of Archie Robert Atkinson, Sr. and Mary Strothers Atkinson Brim, Barbara was born, December 17, 1932, during the Great Depression. Times were hard but they made it through. She grew up with her parents and six siblings in Pittsburgh, PA. After high school, Barbara moved to Englewood, NJ and resided there for 70 years. In 1954, she was employed by the Bell Telephone Company, New Jersey Bell and Verizon for more than forty years where she worked as an operator then progressed to supervisor. In the mid 1980s, she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickenson University. Her hobbies were fashion, thrift shopping, traveling, gardening, cooking and singing. She enjoyed singing in her high school chorus and with a gospel group in her teens. As an adult, she enjoyed singing at formal events for various organizations in her community. Some of her favorite artists were Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole. Over the years, Barbara enjoyed international travel, cruising to the Caribbean and Mexico with her family. She was an avid football enthusiast and as a local Super Bowl Club Member, she attended 12 Super Bowls. Barbara spent decades cultivating her floral and vegetable gardens. Her amazing home cooked meals were exceptional because they were harvested from her joy of gardening. Barbara is predeceased by her husband, Earl Edward Taylor, to whom she was married for 30 years. She is also predeceased by her daughter, Cheryl Taylor and her granddaughter, Candice Taylor. Other predeceased family members include siblings, Dolores Woodson, Nancy Walton, Wade Atkinson and Archie Clifford Atkinson. Barbara leaves behind her siblings, Carolyn Woods and William Brim, daughters, Cobren Brown (Gregory), Elaine Delts, sons Earl Taylor Jr. (Robin), Rodney Taylor, Chevon Stubbs (Marc), Barbara’s caregivers/granddaughter/grand son-in-law) and six other grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 from 10 AM -12 PM at Teaneck Presbyterian Church, 1 Church St, Teaneck, NJ 07666. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at 12PM. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
