Ernesto Ramos Jr.

Ernesto Ramos, Jr., affectionately known to family and friends as Ernie, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, after a courageous battle with illness. He was 61 years old. Born on September 23, 1964, in New York City, Ernie spent much of his young life in the Bronx and later in Yonkers where he graduated from Yonkers High School. Ernie was a man who enjoyed working with his hands. Whether repairing, rebuilding, or simply figuring out how something worked, he found joy in tinkering with almost anything. His greatest passion, however, was automobiles. His truck was among his most prized possessions. Though he often projected a tough, no-nonsense exterior, those who truly knew him cherished his warm heart and unforgettable smile—one that could light up an entire room. On September 26, 1998, Ernie married the love of his life, Cynthia Rivera. Together they built a home centered on love, family, and baseball while raising two sons, Justin and Christian. Both young men became accomplished athletes, playing baseball throughout high school and into college, making the sport a family tradition and a lasting bond. Baseball became much more than a pastime for the Ramos family. Ernie dedicated countless hours to coaching youth baseball with the Englewood Raiders, while Cynthia faithfully supported the effort as team manager. Coach Ramos was so much more than a coach. He was a mentor, teacher, and role model. Scores of young men from Englewood and the surrounding areas benefited from his guidance, encouragement, and belief in their potential, carrying with them lessons that extended far beyond the baseball diamond. Professionally, Ernie proudly served the City of Englewood as a driver with the Department of Public Works. He was respected for his dedication and strong work ethic until illness forced him to step away from the job. Ernie faced his final days with courage, determination, and dignity. Though his earthly journey has ended, the impact he made on his family, friends, coworkers, players, and community will continue for generations. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Graciela and Ernesto, Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Cynthia Rivera-Ramos; his beloved sons, Justin Ramos and Christian Ramos; his sisters, Evelyn Ramos and Wilma Sanchez; along with a host of cousins, extended family members, dear friends, former team members, and the many Englewood Raiders players whose lives were forever shaped by Coach Ramos’s leadership, patience, and unwavering commitment. Ernie’s legacy lives on in every player he mentored, every life he touched, and every smile inspired by his own. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
