Gloria C. Smith

Ms. Gloria Cecelia Smith, resident of New Jersey for over 50 years, departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Care One Rehabilitation Facility in Teaneck, New Jersey. Mother Gloria or simply Ma, known to many children outside of her immediate biological children, was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on October 08, 1935, where she was raised on a farm. Always proud of her home town and alma mater, Tuskegee Institute, famously known as the home of the Tuskegee Airmen, where the movie “Red Tails” was inspired. Mother Gloria lived in Alabama until her high school graduation, and then served in the United States Airforce, which she was honorably discharged with recognition of her Administrative work. Mother Gloria arrived in New Jersey in 1959, where she continued her Administrative work at Bergen Pines Hospital, (now) Bergen Regional Medical Center in Paramus, New Jersey, where she also resided for a few years. Aspiring for a more challenging job, Mother Gloria trained in data entry and operations which lead her to move her residence to Hackensack, New Jersey. There she obtained a position with the company called Metpath Medical Laboratory in Teterboro, New Jersey, which she remained there for over 50 years. During her years in Bergen County, Mother Gloria was known to others as a “Regal” woman with a gentle, polite, and warmhearted spirit. She touched the lives of everyone that she came into contact with in a profound way. Mother Gloria enjoyed cooking, dancing, walking in the parks, arts and crafts with the senior communities, gatherings with family and friends, and going to the movies. However, her greatest joy was attending and servicing in her home church, The Triune Mystical Order of St. Gabriel’s Spiritual Church in Brooklyn, New York. We will fondly remember Mother Gloria as a dignified, strong “Regal” woman of God, with a towering strength and who could light up a room with her smile without saying a word. She leaves behind to treasure her loving memories; her two beloved daughters, Ms. LaRae Muse and family of Teaneck, New Jersey; Ms. Linda D. Reid of Jacksonville, North Carolina; cherished grandchildren; Ms. Sceiva B. Reid of Atlanta, Georgia; Ms. LaKeisha R. Reid of Atlanta, Georgia; Mr. Keith K. Reid of Jacksonville, North Carolina; beloved great-grandson Mr. Jaylen C. Wiggins of Jacksonville, North Carolina; loving sister Ms. Hazel Lemons and family of Toledo, Ohio; loving sister Ms. Theodosia Smith and family of White Plains, New York; loving sister in law Ms. Ruth Walker, wife of deceased brother Roland Walker and family; and a host of relatives and friends.
