James D. Kurpiel Sr.

KURPIEL, James "Jim" Sr. of Hackensack, NJ, formerly of Emerson, NJ passed away on Friday, June 26, 2014. Loving husband, best friend and soul mate of his wife Annie. Devoted father of his "boy" Jimmy Jr. and daughter- in-law Mary. Cherished Poppi of Logan, Christopher and Ryan. Father of daughter Shannon Wax and granddaughter Scarlett. Beloved uncle of Sandy, Sean, Jason, Nickie, John Jr., Susan, Patrick, Ryan, Sean, Jennifer, Ashley, JJ, Gabby and Leah. Special cousin of Maureen and Bill Portman, Michelle and Michael Supper, Brian and Kathleen Peltier and many other dear cousins. Loved by Pete and Pat, Andrew and Jackie, John and Patty, David and Judi and adored by many wonderful friends. Predeceased by his parents Ann and Joseph Kurpiel Sr. and his brother Joe. He was the founder and president of James Kurpiel, Inc. for fifty years. Jim was a self-made success and believed in offering help and encouragement through education and employment. He attributed much of his success in business to being a Dale Carnegie graduate. He was a member of the Hackensack Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and BOMA. Jim served in the National Guard for six years. He taught gun safety classes for the NRA and was a collector of antique firearms, coins and stamps. He was an avid reader and never missed a WWII book. Jim loved the outdoors especially his many fishing trips to Canada with the guys. After he retired, his favorite place to go was his Log cabin on the lake. His cabin was a great source of joy and pride which he treasured with his loving wife and faithful dog by his side. Jim loved life and lived it to the fullest. He had a sharp wit and a great love for family and friends. Jim was always there for anyone in need, he will be sorely missed. Friends and family are invited for visitation this Sunday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell, NJ. Funeral service from the funeral home on Monday at 9 AM, and then to Church of the Assumption, Emerson, NJ for a 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial.
