JAMES KYRIATZIS James Kyriatzis, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on February, 15, 2022. He was born and raised in Eleftheroupoli, Greece during difficult years of war and famine. In 1958, he left his family and immigrated to the United States in search of opportunity and the American dream. All he had in his pocket was $40 and a note that read, “Where is Astoria?” He married his loving and devoted wife, Eva Charalambous in January, 1960 and in 1967, they moved to Dumont, New Jersey to raise their two daughters, Dina and Melina. Jimmy was not a man of many words, but he never missed an opportunity to brag about his wife or his girls. James, or Jimmy, as many knew him, was a jack of all trades and could fix or build just about anything. He was a car and ship mechanic during his military service, and then went on to own Palisades Restaurant in Englewood. He loved to spend countless hours in the yard tending his vegetable and flower gardens, his grapevines, and fig trees. He loved spending time with family on holidays and special occasions, and he was always ready to give advice whether you wanted it or not. He created a summer retreat in Long Island where his children and grandchildren could enjoy some quality family time and build a lifetime of memories. James is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eva, and his daughter, Dina LaBarbiera and husband Chris, and daughter Melina Eve James. He was a proud “Bapou” to Melissa and husband John, Christina and husband Ryan, grandson Daniel, and his extended family: Matt and wife Kate, Carolyn and husband Sal, and Nicole. He adored his grandchildren and was equally proud of each and every one of them. “Theo” Jimmy was also a loving uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, and a good friend to many. He will truly be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May his soul rest eternally in heaven as he enters into the loving arms of our Lord, Jesus. Visitation and a prayer service will be held at Volk-Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, NJ from 3-7 pm on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. We ask that everyone attending be either vaccinated or tested prior to attending. For the safety of all those attending, we kindly ask that everyone please wear a mask. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital in his honor.
