John J O'Leary

John Joseph O’Leary, 81, of Teaneck, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at Holy Name Medical Center Hospice in Teaneck. Born August 27, 1940, in the Bronx, NY, where he was raised, he was the son of the late Bridget (Ruane) and Daniel O’Leary. He was a proud graduate of Our Savior Grammar School and Cardinal Hayes High School, in the Bronx, NY, and Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. John served two years in the US Army. John was a certified public accountant with a specialty in audit and in nonprofit organizations. He started his career in accounting at Arthur Anderson and later worked at Alexander Grant, which became Grant Thornton, from which he retired as a partner. He was a lifelong New York Football Giants fan and possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of the game of football. He was a generous, hardworking, and gregarious person with a hearty laugh and great sense of humor. John never forgot a name or face and loved to share a funny story or three with his family and friends. He was loved and will be deeply missed. He was predeceased by his brother, Daniel O’Leary, in 2020. John is survived by his wife, Julieta Perry; his son, John D. O’Leary and girlfriend, Carol Katadeen; his daughters Tracy Tevyaw and son-in-law Joseph, Merri O’Leary, Faith Delaney and son-in-law Kevin, Jennifer O’Leary and boyfriend Michael Kelton; grandchildren J. Declan Tevyaw, Devin Tevyaw, Jimmy Delaney, Ella Delaney, and Lauren Delaney; his niece Colleen Twill and husband John, his nephew Daniel O’Leary and wife Christine, and his great-nephew John Twill and great-niece Shannon Twill. The family extends their gratitude to the respective staff of Holy Name Medical Center/Hospice and Prospect Heights Care Center for their kind and compassionate care of John. Visitation on Monday, September 20, 2021 from 4-8 pm at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Road, Teaneck. Mass of Christian Burial at 10am on Tuesday, September 21, at St. Anastasia Church in Teaneck. Burial to follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. John’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s name to St. Anastasia Church, 105 Teaneck Rd, Teaneck, NJ 07666 or to Cardinal Hayes High School
