Mary A. Martin

Mary, a resident of New Milford for over 65 years died peacefully at home surrounded by her children on September 18,2022 at the age of 93. Mary was born August 8,1929 in Weehawken, NJ, the eldest of five children and only daughter of Christian De La Roche and Marie (Sweeney) De La Roche. Mary graduated from Weehawken High School where she was their beautiful and popular yearbook editor and lifelong alumni booster. She married Jerome J. Martin of Union City on April 7, 1951. They met at a St. Augustine Church, Union City dance, were married, and relished 64 years of marriage until Jerry’s passing June 8, 2015. Mary is survived by her 6 children, Mary Beth Martin, PhD (husband James Mastropole), Great Falls VA; Maureen Martin-Peer (husband Dr. Gary Peer), Danville, CA; Sharon A. Martin of Pompton Plains, NJ; Jerome V. Martin (wife Mary Elizabeth DeHaven), Kennesaw, GA; Bernadette Martin of New Milford, NJ; and Jennifer Martin, New York City, NY. Mary has seven grandchildren, Brian Peer, David Peer Esq., Kristen Mastropole, Dana Mastropole, Kelsey Martin-Morales, Emily Martin (deceased), Jay Joseph Martin; and two great grandchildren, George Robert Morales, and Luca Anthony Peer. Mary is also survived by her youngest brother Richard De La Roche, Esq. (wife Maureen) of Mount Olive, NJ. Mary’s life and boundless energy was devoted to supporting and encouraging her children in all their endeavors. She was always their biggest advocate and cheerleader. Mary was a creative designer and homemaker. She volunteered her time to the PTA at St. Joseph Elementary School, Oradell, NJ and was active throughout her life in church volunteer work. Family and friends are invited for visiting on Wednesday, September 21, from 4-8PM at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Rd., Oradell,NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 22, at 10:30AM at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Oradell, NJ.
