Michael P Smith

Michael Paul Smith was born on November 15, 1973 in Bronx, NY to his loving parents Delores and Hugh Smith and older brothers Anthony and Andrew. He Attended Saint Lutheran Catholic School in the Bronx through Kindergarten. In 1979 the family relocated to Amsterdam Avenue in Teaneck, NJ where Michael attended the Saint Anastasia school from first grade through fifth grade. He then attended Benjamin Franklin Middle School, followed by Teaneck High School. Michael was very active in Cub/ Boy Scouts, baseball and various other sports. He also had an exceptional love for football which he played throughout high school. After graduating from high school, Michael Attended Hampton University in Virginia where he received his BA in Communications. After college, Michael returned to New Jersey where he lived in Teaneck, Little Ferry, Lodi and most recently in Englewood. Michael was employed by Interglobo International Freight Forwarders, where he worked for the past 13 years. Michael loved music, Star Wars and was a huge Giants football fan, but most of all he loved his family and friends. Michael also loved animals and would often rescue and care for strays he found in the backyard at Amsterdam Avenue. Michael was predeceased by his mother and father 6 years ago. He is survived by his brothers Anthony and Andrew; sister- in- law Donnett, niece Laila and nephew Alex. Uncle Junior (Robert), Aunt Jennifer, cousins Natasha, Ebony, Howard, Beverly, Danielle and numerous other cousins. Michael has been reunited with his parents and while our hearts are sad, he is in a better place and we are blessed to have known him. Michael will be deeply missed by his family - the Smiths, Verleys, Browns and Woons. He will also be greatly missed by all his childhood friends, who were his second family. Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, September 13, 2024 from 4-8pm at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, NJ. A prayer service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 11am at the funeral home. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
