Ronald D. Patterson

Patterson, Ronald D. passed away on Monday, November 22, 2010. He was 82 years old. He was born on January 26, 1928 at his parents home in New Milford, NJ. He was predeceased by his parents Walter (1972) and Florence (2000). Jane McCallister Patterson his beloved wife for more than 50 years passed away in 1999. He is survived by his three daughters, Claudia P. Thompson (Richard), Joyce A. Serin (Barry) and Carol Patterson. He is also survived by his adored wife Sue A. Patterson who he met in the Grief Support Group of their church in Vero Beach, Florida. They had nine years of happiness together. He is also survived by grandson Michael Thompson (Natalie), grandson Stephen Thompson (Dawn), and Jeffrey Serin, four great-grandchildren, Samuel Thompson, Julia Thompson, Noelle Thompson, and Matthew Thompson. He is also survived by his sister, Lois P. Caughlan. Other survivors include his stepson David Botts (Becky), granddaughters Shanna and Natasha Botts and great-grandchildren Kaleb and Skyla Botts and extended Feil and Fisher families. Ron was a lifelong resident of New Milford until 2001 when he moved to Hackensack. Ron was a lifelong active member of First Congregational Church of River Edge and served on every Board and Council, taught Sunday School and sang for many years in the church choir. He served as Moderator of the church for one year. He and Sue were also co-leaders of a grief support group. He was an Associate Member of the Community Church of Vero Beach, Florida where he and Sue were co-leaders of the Grief Support Group. Ron was a 20 year member of the New Milford Volunteer Ambulance Corps served as President of that group and attained Life Member stature. He served as a member of the New Milford Recreation Commission for many years. During those he was instrumental in establishing the New Milford Senior Citizens Club, Improving Warren Park, helping in the organization of the town sponsored July 4th Fireworks and Christmas Tree Lighting ceremonies. Ron served on the Board of Election Advisory Committees and taught the Insurance segment to Driver Education classes for many years. Ron became a partner in the Nelson-Patterson Insurance Agency in 1957. He later became President of the Corporation and continued active participation in the business until his retirement in 1986 when he was succeeded by his nephew Arthur B. Caughlan. Ron was President of the Bergen County Association of Independent Agents in 1982 and President of the New Milford Lion Club in 1980. Ron’s goal in life was to show deep love and devotion to his family, his churches, his community and his friends. A funeral service will take place on Saturday at 11AM at the First Congregational Church of River Edge. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Family and friends are invited to visit Friday 2-4 & 7-9PM at the Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Rd., Oradell.
