Ana S. Zatarain

Ana Zatarain, 87 of Nanuet, New York passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 3, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer. Ana was born on September 30,1934 to Consuelo Rodriguez and Enrique Santos in Central de Delicias, Cuba. Ana was married to her beloved husband Ernesto on December 25, 1956. They were married for 52 wonderful years. As newlyweds they arrived in the U.S. on February 6, 1958, in search of a better life with the hopes of one day returning to their homeland of Cuba. While that was not to be, due to the Cuban Revolution, they shared in the American dream and gratefully adopted the U.S. as their permanent home. Ana enjoyed helping people whenever she could, and while she was a proud homemaker, she was also a Home Health Aide. Throughout her life she volunteered in various settings. For several years she volunteered at Nyack Hospital in Nyack, N.Y. and more recently, volunteered at YCS (Youth Consultation Service Education) in Fort Lee, N.J. Ana was predeceased by her husband, Ernesto and her brothers, Enrique and Nestor Santos. She is survived by her son Ernesto Jr. and his wife Audrey. Grandchildren Daniel, Sabrina and Juliana Zatarain. Sister, Idelisa Santos, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ana was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the kindest most caring person to all that knew her. She will truly be missed. May she find eternal glory in the Kingdom of God. Services will be held at Volk Leber Funeral Home in Oradell, New Jersey from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday May 6, 2022. A mass will be held at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 300 Elm Street in Oradell, N.J. at 9:15 am on Saturday, May 7. Interment will follow at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx, New York. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Ana's memory to the American Cancer Society.
