April 29, 1930 - January 10, 2022
Frank Laganella, age 91, passed away on January 10th at Mill Gardens in Midland Park. Frank was born in Paterson, NJ, on April 29, 1930, along with his twin brother John, to immigrant parents John and Assunta from Italy. Frank was the brother of Anthony and the deceased Rose and Nicolas. At 18 years old, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army to help keep the peace in post-war occupied Germany and Austria, where he would happily recount playing piano at the clubs in Salzburg. He returned home in 1954 to marry the love of his life Beatrice (Fernandi) Laganella. After the army, Frank joined his brother Nicolas’ highway and heavy construction business, PT&L, helping work on the early stages of the Eisenhower instate system in the tri-state area. It was while working at PT&L that Frank developed a passion for helicopter aviation. He greatly enjoyed flying from their office in Paramus to the various job sites he was overseeing. In the late 1970s, Frank, along with his brothers John and Anthony, would go on to form Triple L Heavy Constructors, which he presided over until his retirement in the mid 90s. As for passions, Frank loved the music of Beethoven and Mozart, and was very fond of playing the piano. He was also an avid fan of skeet shooting, which won him many awards. But more than anything, Frank loved being with his family, and nothing made him happier than spending time with the people he loved. He is survived by his sons John and his wife Cheryl, David and his wife Suzanne, and Paul and his wife Maria. Frank also leaves behind his grandchildren, Stephen, Joseph, Jessica, Sabrina, Michael, Christopher, and David, as well as his three great-granddaughters Mia, Francesca, and Penelope. A funeral mass celebrating Frank’s life will be held on Saturday, January 15th, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 900 Darlington Ave., Mahwah. Entombment will follow at the Garden of Memories in Washington Township.
