Peter Joseph Cafasso

February 26, 2021

Peter grew up in North Bergen and graduated from North Bergen High School in 1964. He continued on to college and obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Park College, in Park Ville Missouri. He also received a Master’s degree in Education from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck. As a young boy and throughout high school he worked at the family store now known as Cafasso’s Fairway Market. Peter enjoyed theatre very much and all through high school and college he performed in many stage productions. As an elementary school teacher in West New York for over thirty-five years, Peter dedicated himself to helping all his students and inspired them to achieve their best. He also delighted many families and created lasting memories as a professional photographer. Peter loved music and enjoyed singing his entire life. In his retirement years he devoted his time to performing in local restaurants, private parties and nursing homes. In 2007 he won the very first Frank Sinatra Idol Contest in Hoboken. Above all, Peter loved his family and will be deeply missed by his sisters Rosemary Sammarco and Alberta Salandra, sister-in-law Mary Cafasso. Peter was predeceased by his two brothers, Umberto and Bert. Loving uncle to Jeannine Diamond and her late husband Craig, Lauren Giannini and her husband Erik, Matthew Salandra and his wife Jennie, Christopher Cafasso, Caitlyn Golias and her husband Paul, cherished great uncle to Brittany and Jason Diamond, Avery Rose Salandra and Olivia Rose Golias. Many cousins and friends will also miss Peter. The family would like to thank the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Englewood Hospital, North Bergen EMT, and loving caregivers Judy and Rika. Family and friends are invited to visit Sunday from 2-6pm at the Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Rd. Teaneck, NJ. Funeral service will be held Monday at 9:30 at the Funeral Home.
