Sidoney Marie Chin, age 31, daughter of Glen A. Chin and Jewel V. Thompson-Chin, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at Hackensack University Medical Center. Sidoney was surrounded by her loving parents and close friends when she died of a rare and unanticipated illness. Sidoney resided in Edgewater, NJ and worked as an Associate Director of Human Resources for the Guggenheim Foundation and Museum in New York City for the past six years. Sidoney was a baptized member of the Ridgefield Park Reformed Presbyterian Church in Ridgefield Park, NJ, and served on various committees. Sidoney was born on July 11, 1989 at St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, NJ and spent her formative years in Paterson and Teaneck. She attended Hackensack Christian School, Thomas Jefferson Middle School, and Teaneck High School, graduating in 2007. Sidoney was an excellent student and loved to dance. She was in the Arts Academy, a member of the Teaneck High School Terpsichorean Dance Troupe and was a Captain on the THS Flag Twirler Squad. Upon graduating high school, Sidoney attended Northeastern University and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, with a concentration in Human Resources. While at Northeastern, she participated in cooperative work experiences and volunteered in community service work in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina and later worked and studied in Costa Rica. After graduation, she worked for Charles River Analytics in Cambridge, MA as a Computer Technology Personnel Recruiter, and then came back to the NY/NJ area to work for the Guggenheim Foundation.Sidoney maintained an active lifestyle, swimming, skiing, camping, and hiking. Her favorite personal interests included arts and entertainment, reading, and travel, particularly to beach locations with her toes in the sand! Sidoney was an amazing and loving daughter. She will be remembered by her family and friends as an incredibly generous person and a loyal friend. She was patient and practical, had a wry sense of humor, and was very smart. She possessed a beautiful, quiet soul and a brilliant smile. Above all she was a faithful believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.Sidoney is survived by her paternal grandparents, Alvin and Gloria Chin; Aunts and Uncles: Charles and Cordis Thompson, Clifford and Betty Mitchem, Eamonn and Brenda Chin, and Paul and Shawntal Chin. She is also survived by a host of beloved cousins and cherished friends. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Leonard and Anna Thompson. The Chin family will receive relatives and friends, Friday April 23, 2021 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, NJ 07666. Mask wearing and social distancing will be observed. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 10:00 am at the Reformed Church of Bronxville, 180 Pondfield Road, Bronxville, NY 10708. Interment will take place following the service at the Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery across the street from the Church. Due to NY State Covid-19 restrictions, the family of Sidoney Chin respectfully requests that non-family members participate in honoring her memory via the virtual streaming of the funeral service.
