Almeda Braxton

Almeda Braxton was born on February 12th in Smithfield North Carolina. She was the youngest of 11 children born to the union of Reverend Willie and Isadora Williams. Almeda accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. Almeda, also known as Meda to her family, received her education in the public schools of Rocky Mount, North Carolina where she graduated from Nash Central High School. Soon, thereafter, she moved to New York City where she met and fell in love with Walter Lee Braxton II. Almeda and Walter were united in Holy Matrimony in 1967. The happy couple moved to Teaneck NJ in 1968. God blessed this union with three children, two daughters and one son. Almeda’s love and commitment to her family was evident in her role as caretaker and nurse for her husband during his final years. Her union with Walter lasted until his passing in 1999. Almeda united with the First Baptist Church of Englewood, NJ in 1994. Almeda immediately began to study God’s Word. After completing the Membership Essentials Class, she took the Church’s Discipleship Trainings. Almeda was a faithful Sunday Morning Worshiper and a weekly participant in the Tuesday Noon Bible Study. Almeda worked as a therapy aide supervisor at Rockland Psychiatric Center. As a supervisor and leader, she was responsible for training new therapy aids entering the workplace. Almeda retired, after serving the Center for over 25 years. Almeda is known for her impeccable character, leadership and service. Due to her extraordinary values, she strived for excellence in absolutely everything she did. She valued spirituality, community, and family with great sacrifice. Almeda was a community organizer who established the first Hubert Terrace Block Party that continues to the present. She also founded the Williams Family Reunion, which continues to take place every Labor Day weekend. Her commitment to the lord was a daily walk in which she loved Jesus Christ with all of her heart. She was considered a gift from God and a discerned spirit. Almeda had an abundance of unconditional love for her children and grandchild and was proud that they all succeeded in higher education. She leaves to cherish her memories brother Benjamin Williams, daughters Wendy Jackson and Gail Braxton, son Walter Lee Braxton III, granddaughter Shene James, sister in-laws Leanora Williams and Irene Williams, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
