Barbara and John 'Jack' Duddy

Barbara Louise Duddy June 29, 1937 - May 1, 2026 John (Jack) Patrick Duddy February 23, 1935 - November 16, 2024 Barbara Louise Duddy of Oradell, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on a beautiful sunny Friday. She lived a full life filled with love, extraordinary courage and purpose. Barbara was a registered nurse and pursued her profession passionately in a variety of different roles such as operating room nurse, nursing director, school nurse, community health nurse, and health educator. She won numerous awards, such as the Excellent Eleven, and served as the president of the Tennessee School Nurses’ Association. She was an excellent cook and a laundry maven way before it was in fashion. She was predeceased by her husband John “Jack” Duddy (11/16/2024). Jack retired from a career with International Paper Company. He had a wicked clever sense of humor, a gentle manner, and a quiet steady presence in the lives of his family, especially his children. He could build and fix anything and cooked the best Sunday breakfast. He had the chance to throw out the first pitch at a minor league Redbirds game, he had a part in a major motion picture, and was the number one treat dealer to all the neighborhood dogs in Cordova. Barbara and Jack grew up around the corner from each other in Wood Ridge, NJ. They met when she was a fifth-grader and he a seventh-grader, and thus began a long, wonderfully fun and fruitful life together. After marrying in 1958, they moved to Pequannock, NJ and raised four children in an activity- and laughter-filled home. A job transfer led to a relocation to Cordova, TN. There, they built another wonderful network of friends, colleagues and neighbors. They each had a ferocious work ethic, irreverent sense of humor, generous countenance, and created beautiful memories for anyone who was fortunate to be a part of their lives. They traveled the world and many of these United States. They are greatly and deeply missed. They are survived by their children, Lisa Duddy (Richard Freund); Kim Gastelu (Christopher); grandchildren Garrett Burton, Cosette Gastelu; Alec Freund; Hallie Gastelu, and Nora Burton; siblings Catherine Sloan (nee Duddy), Nan Schley (nee Duddy), Maureen Myers (nee Duddy) and many nieces, nephews, and friends. They are preceded in death by their children, Jay Duddy and Melissa Duddy Burton, siblings George Adelung, and Thomas Duddy and their parents, Denis and Mary Duddy and George and Louise Adelung. A combined memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Saint Joseph’s RC Church in Oradell, NJ. Donations may be made in their memory to the Melanoma Research Alliance or the Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
