Evergisto Ramos Jr.

Evergisto Ramos, Jr., 84, passed away peacefully on November 5. He was predeceased by parents, Evergisto and Grace (Isasi) and sister Lia Cassa. He was born in Washington Heights, New York City and resided in River Edge for 52 years. He graduated from George Washington High School in Washington Heights and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He began his machinist career as a representative for the Universal Corrugated Box Machinery Corporation, responsible for the installation and maintenance of the corporation’s machinery throughout the United States and Caracas, Venezuela. He was later employed by Westinghouse and then Schindler as a service technician and was responsible for the elevators in many of the tallest buildings in Manhattan, including 25 years in Rockefeller Center. He was a member of the I.U.E.C. Local 1. Evergisto, was best known to his family and friends as “Ev” or “Ray”. Neighbors knew that he was happiest when he was involved in a project at his home, listening to opera on his workshop radio. When his children were young, he enjoyed being involved with them in scouting and coaching sports. He and his wife Ann loved to tour the West. They enjoyed traveling Europe as well as short getaways to Massachusetts and the New York Adirondacks visiting their children. His favorite pastimes were playing golf, tinkering in his workshop, “making sawdust” as he used to call it, and working with the wonderful ladies on the River Edge Beautification Committee. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Ann (Parlow), sons Everett of Stony Creek, NY; Christopher (Katie) of Acton, MA; Michael (Karen) of Oak Ridge, NJ and loving grandchildren, Bonny, Lynn, Megan and Daniel. He is also survived by his sister Martha (Robert) Mulligan, of Washington Township, NJ, and his nieces and nephews Robert and Jerri Parlow of Bay Head, NJ; Donald and Patti Parlow of Princeton, NJ; Christopher and Toni Parlow Brick, NJ; Patricia Parlow of Chadwick Beach, NJ. and Joanne Nagoda of Forestburgh NY and their children. Visitation will take place on Thursday November 9 2017 4PM to 8PM at the Volk Leber Funeral Home located at 268 Kinderkamack Rd. Oradell, NJ. A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, November 10th 2017 at 9:30 AM, St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in River Edge, NJ. Internment will be at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY.
