Jose V. Triunfo, Jr.

José "Pepe" V. Triunfo, Jr., age 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, 30 November 2017, at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey. He was born October 22, 1931 in Manila Philippines to José Triunfo, Sr. and Luisa Villote Triunfo. He was the youngest son of fourteen children and grew up to earn an aeronautical degree. He achieved his dream of becoming a pilot. He had many flight assignments throughout Southeast Asia. He was also the Chief Flight Inspector at the Civil Aeronautics Administration in the Philippines and also trained at FAA. José loved sharing stories about his love of flying. His many friends and family will remember his excitement recounting tales of when he was a young pilot. One such story was a plane crash in Kalibo, Aklan. It was in the early 60's and as the co-pilot, he was the one who made the crucial decision where to land: there were no passenger casualties with the exception of one carabao in the rice paddies. José also enjoyed gardening—his roses were his pride and joy. He was known to garden even on the hottest or coldest days. He also loved meeting new people and made friends wherever he went. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Rosa Cantiller Calayag who he married on 5 January 1957. Together they had five children, Elizabeth (Franky), Edgar (Joseline), Janet (Edmund), Joselito (Fe Linda), Rochellee (Allan), eleven grandchildren: James, Jennifer (Juben), Laura (Stephen), Frank Jr. (Holly), Justine, Lauren, Karen, Paul, Katelyn, Jared, and Liana, and two great-grandchildren: Shaine Madelyn and Jordyn Rose. He also has his oldest brother in San Francisco (who just turned ninety-nine), and sisters in Las Vegas, Chicago, California, and the Philippines. Viewing services will be held at Volk-Leber Funeral Home 268 Kinderkamack Road Oradell, NJ 07649 on Saturday, 2 December 2017, 12.00-2.00 PM and 4.00-6.00 PM and Sunday, 3 December 2017, 2.00-6.00 PM. The funeral will be held on Monday, 4 December 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Church, 300 Elm Street in New Milford (borders Oradell), New Jersey. Cremation will follow (immediate family only).
