Louise G. Sciacchetano

Sciacchetano, Louise G., age 95, died peacefully on September 30, 2015 at her home in Pompton Plains, NJ. The oldest of 9, Louise was born in Garfield, NJ. She married the love of her life, Louis Sciacchetano, in 1941 and raised 3 beautiful children in Teaneck and Emerson, NJ. They filled their home with great food, parties, and Frank Sinatra music. Although she lost her husband and daughter too soon, she never stopped living life to its fullest. Louise loved to dance and found excuses to fox trot and rumba around every turn – senior center events, dance classes, and visits with her grandchildren. Stubborn to the bone, Louise refused to age, and won the battle for a good many years. The older the people around her got, the more determined she became. Any evening out was cause for sequins, bright colors and swirling dresses. Even a trip to the grocery store warranted a red beret. Louise loved cooking and feeding people and was known to have a lasagna and a couple cakes on hand just in case someone stopped by. Louise had an unshakable will to live despite struggling through the great depression when she had to drop out of school in 8th grade to care for her siblings and work in a sweat shop as a seamstress, forever carrying the bruises earned there, almost losing her husband to WWII, while facing the terrible losses of family and friends in her life. She had strength and spirit and style and will be greatly missed. Louise is survived by her son Lawrence Sciacchetano and daughter-in-law Kathy; son Louis Sciacchetano and fiancée Michelle; sister Helen; sister Connie, brother Victor, brother Bobby and 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is pre-deceased by her husband Louis Sciacchetano and her daughter Lorraine Dowdell. Family and friends are invited to visit Friday, from 2-4PM & 6-8PM, at the Volk Leber Funeral Home 268 Kinderkamack Rd., Oradell. Funeral Service Saturday, 10am at Volk Leber Funeral Home. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Louise’s name to the Make-A-Wish foundation at wish.org.
