Marilyn Jean Ollivierre

On Sunday, February 12, 2023, Marilyn Jean Ollivierre, loving wife and mother, passed away. Marilyn was born on December 30, 1939 in Port of Spain, Trinidad, West Indies, the fourth daughter of the late Paulina and Frederick Tull. After spending her childhood years in Trinidad, Marilyn joined her family in New York City in 1957. The family settled in the Bronx, where she attended Morris High School until her graduation in 1960. Marilyn studied at Hunter College, modeled briefly and worked at New York Compensation Insurance Rating Board prior to starting her career at American Airlines. Marilyn held many positions with the airline, serving as a gate agent at Newark Airport until her retirement in 1995 after 25 years of service. Marilyn married the love of her life, the late Cyril Ollivierre, on September 23, 1961. Together they raised their daughter, Dawn, ultimately making their home in Teaneck, New Jersey. Marilyn was an active member of St. Anastasia Roman Catholic Church during her time in Teaneck. Marilyn’s work with American Airlines allowed her to indulge her love of travel. She traversed the Caribbean, ventured to Africa, Asia, Europe and South America with Cyril and, frequently, her mother and daughter. Marilyn’s love of skiing took her out west with Cyril and dear friends, Jean and Perry Washington. As much as Marilyn loved these journeys, her passion for Trinidad’s Carnival was her greatest joy. Marilyn traveled back home to Trinidad to play “mas” every chance she got, often bringing her daughter and her sisters, Patricia Tull and Shirley Busby with her. She was known for her love of music, dancing, cooking shopping at flea markets and dogs as well as her quick, infectious smile and her kind, compassionate yet tenacious spirit. Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Dawn Ollivierre-Bassarath; her grandson, Luke Bassarath; her son-in-law, Sheldon Bassarath; sisters Jacqueline Tull, Shirley Busby and Patricia Tull; nieces Heather Walcott and Janine Hardy; nephews Ian Walcott, Curt Galera, Wayne Busby and Jay Tull as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
