Maureen S. Tuohy

Maureen Sabina Cuffe Tuohy of Oradell, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, at the age of 91. Maureen was born on May 21, 1934, in the Bronx, New York, to Bridie (Rowley) Cuffe from County Sligo, Ireland and Patrick Cuffe from County Mayo, Ireland. Maureen was one of six siblings raised in the Bronx and Elmhurst (Queens), New York. Maureen grew up as a member of St. Luke’s Parish in the Bronx. She graduated from St. Jean Baptiste High School and worked briefly as a fashion model and then at Obrig Laboratories (contact lenses) in New York City. Maureen married Warren Francis Tuohy in 1956 and they settled in Oradell, New Jersey where they raised their two children, Maureen and Marty, as members of St. Joseph’s Parish. With the children settled in school, Maureen returned to the workforce in Oradell at the Huntington Learning Center. Maureen was one of Huntington’s first employees. She loved being part of the Huntington family and retired from Huntington after 41 years at the age of 80! Maureen had a love of reading, Ireland, Irish music, hard work, and all things related to her family. Maureen is predeceased by her father Patrick, her mother Bridie, and her husband Warren. She is also predeceased by her brother James P. Cuffe (J.P.) and his wife Marion Reynolds, her brother William M. Cuffe (Billy), her sister Frances A. Cuffe, her sister-in-law Patricia Tuohy Barker and her husband George H. Barker, her niece Kathleen Barker McConnell, her nephew James P. Cuffe, Jr. (Jimmy) and her nephew G. Martin Barker. Maureen is survived by her sister Sally (Cuffe) O’Shea and Joseph O’Shea of Floral Park, New York, her sister Patricia (Cuffe) O’Leary and Paul O’Leary of Floral Park, New York, her sister-in-law Carole Cuffe of New City, New York and her many wonderful nieces and nephews who meant the world to her. Maureen is also survived by her daughter Maureen Tuohy-Bedford and Warren Bedford of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, her son Martin Tuohy and Maggie (Dailey) Tuohy of Maplewood, New Jersey and her treasured grandchildren Evan Tuohy-Bedford, Miles Tuohy-Bedford, Jack Bedford, Hannah Tuohy, Sadie Tuohy, Maeve Tuohy, and Lochlan Tuohy. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to Ify Onyeajuwa for her tireless and compassionate care for Maureen over the past year. Ify’s dedication allowed Maureen to remain at home with dignity and comfort. Ify was a blessing to all of us, and she is now part of the family. Visitation will be on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., immediately followed by a funeral service, at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell NJ. Interment will follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery, 2600 Lafayette Avenue, Bronx, NY 10465. After the interment, a repast will be held at the Wicked Wolf, 4029 E. Tremont Avenue, Bronx, NY 10465. But above all, those who wish to honor Maureen’s memory might do so by simply gathering with family and friends, sharing stories, laughing, enjoying music, and toasting to the good times.
