Maxine L. Lamb

Maxine L. Lamb, daughter of The Honorable Gerald G. and Carolyn Wilson, was born in Key West, Florida, on December 23, 1929. After living in New Albany, Indiana for several years, her parents moved to Harlem, New York, where she attended George Washington High School. In the mid 1960’s, she met John D. Lamb, and the two were married on April 4, 1970. They remained happily married for over 30 years until his passing on October 11, 2002. They had one son, Dr. Jerry D. Lamb, who was the center of their love and attention. While John D. was unyielding and intense, Maxine was sweet, understanding, and comforting. It was her presence that made Jerry’s life balanced. She used her unique organizational skills and acute attention to detail to become a secretary at Samin Corp. in NYC and later at Hoyt Corp. in Englewood, NJ, for many years until her retirement. Maxine Lamb was a dedicated member and usher at Shiloh African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Englewood for over 30 years and at the Urban League Guild for many years. For over a decade, she worked as a Bergen County poll worker. She was always appreciated for her willingness to help others. Whatever she did, it was always with thoughtfulness, thoroughness and to the best of her ability. Her petite frame and soft voice always manifested a feeling of peace and comfort to those around her. She had a natural tendency to listen to and understand all her friends. Her non-judgmental disposition made it easy for people to share their secrets with her, knowing Maxine could always be trusted to keep everything private. She was a serene, loving, gracious, and elegant woman with a beautiful sense of humor; she will be sorely missed. Maxine L. Lamb leaves behind her only son, the joy and love of her life, Dr. Jerry Darryl Thurston Wilson Lamb; three grandchildren, Sean, Samuel, and Sampson Mapp; their brother Solomon; and their mother, Tezui Morris. The entire Manuel family, her Godson Rodney, and the LaFond family, her nephews Walter and Michael Nealy and the entire Nealy family, Deshay Thomas, Franklyn and Cherryl Wilson and the whole Wilson family, the Huyler, Rolle, Ferguson, Archer and Albury families, the Mims, Cousins, Buggs, and Vann families. She also leaves behind countless friends and other family members to mourn her passing and forever cherish her memory. Family and friends are invited to the viewing on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 4-8 PM at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Road, teaneck, NJ 07666. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 11 AM to 12 PM at Shiloh African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Englewood, NJ.
