William Isaac Brooks

William Isaac Brooks (a/k/a/ “Bill) was born on January 29, 1948, to the union of Charlie Brooks and Margie Wiggins in Lenoir County in Kinston, N.C. Bill attended Adkins High School in Kinston, N.C., where he was the student body president. He graduated from Adkins in 1965 and attended North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C. Bill graduated in May 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minor in economics. After graduation, he was recruited by Deloitte Haskins & Sells, where he began working as an auditor. He later worked as an accountant at the Martin Luther King Jr. Health Center in the Bronx, New York. He then accepted a position as Director of Accounting at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, N.Y., where he worked for 19 years. He then joined one of his long-time colleagues at Acacia Network (formerly Promesa Inc.) in the Bronx, N.Y. At Acacia Network, Bill served as a Comptroller for almost twenty years until his passing. Bill met his wife, Pam, in 1994. Although he was an accountant, he said he would like her to prepare and review his annual taxes. They would sit and talk for hours about their families, their likes and dislikes, traveling, food, and staying healthy (which, of course, had nothing to do with taxes!). Bill finally got the courage to ask her out on a date in May 2004, which led to their engagement and, ultimately, their marriage on October 2, 2005. They would have celebrated twenty years of marriage in 2025. Bill enjoyed working for Acacia. He loved anything involving “NUMBERS” (if you really knew Bill, then you know what that means!) He also loved traveling, cooking, and trying new recipes he put together (most of the time, he was the only one who enjoyed it). He also enjoyed watching old western movies and his favorite basketball team, The Lakers, of course. Bill would get up early on the weekends if Tiger Woods was playing golf and didn’t want to participate in anything else. He would sit for hours watching television and enjoy eating bowls of ice cream. That was an ideal weekend for Bill Brooks. He was so enthused by these things that he even encouraged his wife, Pam, to watch it with him. He taught her the details of scoring the games, and she learned to enjoy it as much as he did. But, of course, Pam would say, “I can’t watch this – I don’t want to jinx them (Tiger or the Lakers), but when they would win – the two of them would celebrate – it was party time in the Brooks household. While Bill held many roles and titles in his life, his most cherished ones were as father and grandfather. His love for his family was boundless, and he found joy in every moment spent with them. He was always there for his children, helping them navigate everyday situations and cheering them on at their sporting events with a cup of decaf coffee in hand! His role as a grandfather brought him immense happiness, and he loved nothing more than doting on his grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his memories of his wife, Pamela; his children, Oneika (Robert DeJoy), Jamil (Natalie), and Christopher; his stepson, Jamel Hagan (Darina); his grandchildren, Nasreen, Khalil, Alim, Elijah, Lenox, Britney, Nico, and B.J, his siblings, Charlotte, Arline, Maria, Tonya, Jahmaal, Lisa, and Ivy, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
