William James Carey Jr.

William J. Carey, 84, of Oradell, NJ, formerly of Brooklyn, NY, Palisades Park, NJ, and Bayonet Point, FL, passed away March 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Frances J. Carey (nee Pardus). Devoted father of William J. Carey III, Father-In-Law to Cathy Carey (nee Lazzaro), loving grandfather of Colleen, Cassandra, Christopher, Caden, Catherine, and the late Courtney, and cherished great grandfather of Genevieve. Born on February 24, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York, William lived a life rooted in faith, service, and devotion to his family. He was a proud graduate of Fordham University, where he began a lifelong commitment to helping others. After getting married in 1966, Bill and Fran moved to Hackensack, NJ and then to Palisades Park, NJ. Here, he dedicated many years of his professional life as a family counselor for Bergen County and then as Supervisor for the Family Crisis Intervention division of Bergen County offering compassion, guidance, and support to individuals and families in times of need. His work reflected his deep empathy and unwavering commitment to making a difference. A devoted Catholic, William served as a Eucharistic minister and lived his faith through both word and action. His spirituality was a guiding force throughout his life and was evident in the kindness he extended to all who knew him. In his later years, William relocated to Bayonet Point, Florida. After the passing of his beloved wife, Frances J. Carey, he returned to New Jersey, where he lived with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, finding comfort in being surrounded by family once again. William will be remembered for his gentle spirit, steadfast faith, and devotion to his family. His legacy of compassion and strength will live on in all who knew and loved him. Friends and family are invited for visitation this Friday, March 27th from 4-8PM at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 28th at 9:45AM at St. Joseph RCC, Oradell, NJ. Private entombment to follow at Grace Memorial Gardens in Hudson, FL.
